Centre Overview
Finglas Youth Service (FYS) provides a comprehensive range of support services for young people including recreational and educational programmes, leadership training, Garda Youth Diversion Projects, Detached Youth Work and Drug Education. Finglas Youth Service also promotes a wide variety of outdoor pursuits opportunities for young people. These include rock-climbing, orienteering, hill walking, canoeing etc. FYS also promotes environmental awareness among young people. Finglas Youth Service also promote and facilitate programmes of activities for some 1400 children and young people and are run during the summer holidays in parishes and communities throughout Finglas. The programmes are organised by local volunteers and supported and promoted by the Youth Service.
Key Aims & Objectives of Service
Our mission is to promote a youth work response that is caring, compassionate and Christian and enables young people to participate more fully in the life of society and church.
We do this through a wide variety of initiatives and programmes:
* Faith initiatives which challenge young people to Christian living.
* Finglas Youth Service accepts our responsibility and obligations to safeguard the welfare of children in our care. We undertake to ensure a best practice response to child protection by having a clear child protection policy and procedures which are designed to underpin and demonstrate our commitment to our duty of care.
* Programmes, training, events and activities for youth clubs/groups and adult leaders.
* Co-ordination and support for summer programmes, which provide educational and recreational programmes for children and young people during the summer months.
* Programmes which promote social inclusion amongst young people. Provision and encouragement of youth arts activities.
* Crime diversion programmes which help young people involved in crime.
* Drug Education and Prevention Initiatives.
* Adventure Sports Programmes.
